SAN DIEGO, CA – KES Inc. (www.kes.com) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $22 Million Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) contract to provide engineering services to support the installation of the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES), as well as Naval Modular Automated Communications System (NAVMACS) platforms aboard US Navy Afloat assets in support of the SPAWAR PMW 160 program office. CANES is the Navy’s next generation tactical afloat network and platform upon which the development and deployment processes for new applications and hardware can be greatly expedited by means of an adaptable Common Computing Environment. An objective of the CANES effort is the consolidation of legacy networks aboard Navy ships, with the goal of enhancing operational effectiveness and providing a better quality of life for deployed Sailors. CANES is planned to be installed on a wide array of Navy Ship platforms as well as on submarines and Maritime Operations Centers.

Previously under PMW760 contract in support of Fleet Readiness Directorate, KES Inc. was responsible for the development of Shipboard Installation Drawings (SID) packages which enabled first successful installation of CANES aboard the USS Milius (DDG 69) in November, 2013 and continued to provide this work through 2013 and early 2014 for a multitude of other DDG-class ships. The award of this new contract ensures that KES will be able to continue to provide its innovative and cost effective multi-disciplined engineering services in support of this program.

About Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR)

As the Navy’s Information Dominance systems command and technical lead for C4ISR, SPAWAR (pronounced sp?-wôr) provides the hardware and software to connect our warfighters at sea, on land and in the air. We support the full lifecycle of product and service delivery from the initial research and development, to acquisition and deployment, to operations and logistics support.

SPAWAR is one of three major Department of Navy acquisition commands. While other systems commands focus on tangible platforms, information is SPAWAR’s platform. Our products and services transform ships, aircraft and vehicles from individual platforms into integrated battle forces, delivering and enhancing information dominance and awareness among Navy, Marine, joint forces, federal agencies and international allies.

SPAWAR is organized into eight competencies: finance, contracts, legal, logistics and fleet support, engineering, acquisition and program management, science and technology and corporate operations. Read more about our competencies.

SPAWAR provides support to three Navy Program Executive Offices (PEOs). The program offices within these PEOs work to minimize cost while rapidly delivering products to warfighters.

SPAWAR’s affiliated PEOs are:

  • PEO Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I)
  • PEO Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS)
  • PEO Space Systems
